PENARTH man Cllr Harold Rees is the new chairman of the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Cllr Rees, whose wife Ann is also a councillor, will be supported by Barry man Cllr Anthony Powell in the deputy chairman role.
He was nominated by Cllr Janice Birch, who just this week became Penarth Town Council's new deputy mayor.
Cllr Rees began his career working for a local government finance department where he met his wife.
Cllr Rees served on South Glamorgan County Council and has been on the Vale of Glamorgan Council since 1995.
He has been the vice chairman of finance as well as being an active supporter of the Vale Railway Line and the Penarth Renewal Area.
Cllr Rees chose the Arthritis Research Campaign as his charity, revealing that fellow councillors Fred Johnson and Anthony Powell have agreed to undertake a sponsored weight loss of two stone by December to raise money. His other charity will be revealed soon.
