EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of May 20, 1977:

* Penarth dairyman, Phillip Jones, of Grove Place, was installed as the new president of Penarth and District Chamber of Trade by retiring president William Bridge, at the annual general meeting held at the Esplanade Hotel.

* Penarth Players Operative and Dramatic Society is seeking planning permission to convert premises at Dingle Lane, Penarth, into rehearsal rooms to solve a long standing problem.

* St Augustine's branch of the Mothers' Union held a dinner at the Plymouth Rooms last week in honour of their enrolling member, Mrs Norman Griffiths, and her husband, the Rev Norman Griffiths, rector of Penarth who will be retiring next month.

* Sixteen pupils from Cogan Primary School, competed in the recent Gwent Music Festival at Cwmbran, where they gained valuable experience and acquitted themselves well.

* There was a large audience at Penarth Townswomen's Guild meeting at St Alma's School last week to hear the Danish speaker Mrs Parry give a talk entitled Make it Danish.

* Cllr Mrs Ruby Parsons of Salop Street, Penarth, will be elected the new Penarth Town Mayor tonight (Friday) to succeed Cllr Harold Toye.

EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of May 22, 1992:

* Patrons of St Fagans Hotel, Penarth, raised over £100 toward the purchase of equipment for the Emergency Admissions Unit at Llandough Hospital. Landlady Teresa Legierski presented the cash to nurse Bob Williams.

* An opinion survey shows that more than eight out 10 people in Penarth would prefer to stay in a Vale of Glamorgan unitary authority rather than become part of Cardiff.

* A proposal to convert the New Pandora Restaurant in Penarth town centre into a Wimpy Bar is being opposed bu the Town Council.

* Mrs Mary Slade, Stanwell's Head of Girls' PE and Duke of Edinburgh Co-ordinator, was invited to represent the County of South Glamorgan as a Marshall at the ceremony at St James Palace.

* Penarth RFC Coach and former Welsh International Paul Ringer presented a 'consolation prize' of a rugby ball to Ben Davies, of Penarth.

* Toby Stockton, 9, a drama pupil at Penarth's Batho Davies School of Theatre Arts. has been chosen to play in Welsh National Opera's accl-aimed production of Madam Butterfly.
