PENARTH pupils have helped launch an important environmental service aimed at keeping the future green.
The youngsters at Fairfield Primary School - which recently received Eco awards - were involved in starting up the Schools Environmental Education Project, run by Track 2000.
As part of the launch, youngsters from class nine did a presentation in front of the school, showing how many items can be recycled and reused. The pupils had been working with Track 2000's education officer and learned that many items were thrown away unnecessarily.
Assistant head teacher Helen Jennings said: "The school encourages the promotion of environmental issues and welcomes organisations like Track 2000.
"The children have been given a lot to think about and have learned about some very important issues regarding waste recycling as well as having a lot of fun in the process."
Track 2000 has had a great boost to starting up its project from the Vale of Glamorgan Environmental Partnership.
Track 2000 can now offer resources to schools in the Vale of Glamorgan and provide recycled equipment, games and educational literature to support the school in gaining Eco school status.
Schools from all over the Vale will be invited to take advantage of this unique project and the resources of the charity. Reuse and recycling are encouraged in the school and children take this back to their homes and communities.
Tony Crocker, from Track 2000, said: "The Vale Partnership has shown great foresight in funding this charity in order to supply the project to schools in the Vale.
"The children here will become the next adult generation and will have a strong commitment for the environment and realise its importance for our future."
