Sully's uses

WE, AS a council, are loathe to enter the field of politics in general, so we stress that this letter amounts to comment on a situation and not a direct criticism of any group or individual.

Sully hospital, being a listed building in a condition and location that makes it unfit for human habitation of any sort, might be best used for some non-residential purpose.

An idea for Sully might be as a conference centre. Limited approved structural alteration might be necessary. We believe the layout of the building might provide a conference hall, seminar rooms for workshops, catering facilities and even overnight accommodation.

Barry is still to a degree an industrial and business area, close to Cardiff and its airport.

We are sure that funding for such a project could be found from public and private sources.

We believe that this would be of benefit to Sully and its inhabitants both financially and elevating the status of the village.

The subject of asylum seekers is contentious but as a group representing vulnerable people we can and will only support the basic human right of any person to escape persecution and discrimination.

We are sure that the people of Sully would agree with us and would fully support any asylum seekers that might have no choice but to be sited, however temporarily, in their area. The minority prejudiced groups would be shamed by the decent, caring and admirable majority of the population of the area.
