Jubilee fun for all

PENARTH is celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee in style, cracking open the bubbly and toasting a grand era.

Lots of events have been organised for the town, some of which have taken place already. Local members of Cardiff Dysphasia Support yesterday held a tea dance at Elfed Avenue United Church Hall, celebrating with special routines and refreshments.

Tomorrow, three Penarth nurseries will hold street parties. Cogan Nursery and First Steps Nursery children will be going regal and dressing up as kings and queens, while Orchard Day Nursery youngsters will be dressed in patriotic red, white and blue.

Meanwhile, staff at First Steps are doing a sponsored fancy dress event to raise money for the Noah's Ark Appeal.

On Friday, Cogan OAPs will be holding a tea party, while Penarth Royal British Legion will be involved in a church parade on Sunday.

Dinas Powys and Penarth Lawn Tennis Clubs are both running open days on Monday, while various parties are taking place at Charlotte Street, Shakespeare Avenue and St Ambrose and St Baruc Closes in Dinas Powys.

One of the most well-attended events is expected to be a 'Celebration in the Park' organised by the Penarth Societyat 2pm on Monday at Alexandra Park.

It will feature Penarth girlband Glitz who will entertain on the bandstand. Families can take along picnics, make use of free deck chairs and enjoy the music.

Sully residents can go along to a marquee in Burnham Avenue where the Community Council has organised junior and senior discos.
