Town ready for super summer

PENARTH is preparing for a busy season with brand new resort officers to keep things ship-shape.

Penarth Pier and The Esplanade will be under the watchful eye of staff who will undertake general maintenance, supervise fishing areas and provide visitors with information about the area.

They have already installed trendy new 'Welcome signs' on the pier and will soon be assisting with the docking of the pleasure steamers 'Balmoral' and 'Waverley'.

The steamers are a familiar sight in Penarth, visiting the town to take passengers on day trips across the Channel. The trips began at the end of May and will run throughout the summer season until Monday, October 21.

The resort officers work under Penarth Town resort manager Steve Barrett who can be contacted on 2070 0421.

The Tourist Information Centre is also ready for customer enquiries and is open from 10am until 5.30pm every day.

The centre offers advice on local attractions, places to visit and events, as well as an accommodation booking service. For further information phone 2070 8849.

Penarthians and visitors can also make use of a great new summer events programme which kicks off in July.

The programme will begin with a New Orleans-style jazz band on July 21 and will finish on August 25 with a one-man clowning show. This will include rope walking, stilt walking and juggling. For more information, phone Penarth Tourist Information Centre.
