EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of June 10, 1977:

Residents of the Wordsworth Avenue are facing bigger hazards than ever because of the increasing numbers and size of vehicles using the road, it is claimed.

An appeal for the demolition of the former public toilet block at the Wordsworth Avenue playing field, Penarth, has been turned down by the Vale Environmental Health Committee.

Residents of Pantycelyn Road, Llandough, made an early start to their Jubilee celebrations with a street party attended by 40 children.

The Paget Rooms was packed with members of Penarth Darby and Joan Club last week and the centre of attraction was the beautiful Jubilee cake, made by the Queen's Cafe.

Penarth Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Ruby Parsons, last week presented Jubilee mugs to pupils at Llandough Primary School on behalf of Penarth Town Council.

Two young fans from St Cyres Comprehensive, Penarth, took part in BBC 1's Screen Test on Friday, June 24. They were Steven Rosser, from Dinas Powis, and Neil Cradick from St Cyres Road, Penarth.

A proposal for four new shops near Penarth town centre roundabout has been turned down by the Vale Planning Committee.

Fears have been expressed about the suitability of a new recycling and civic amenity site to be provided at Sully.

New Mayor of the Vale Cllr Des Leddington held a civic service at All Saints' Church, Penarth, on Sunday.

Local Author Pamela Cockerill scored a double success at a recent weekend course for writers organised by the South and Mid Wales Association of Writers.

After launching the Vale council's civic environmental awards to create a green, clean and tidy borough, mayor Cllr Des Leddington took time to discuss the scheme with chief executive Mr Mike Smith and Civic Trust for Wales director Dr Matthew Griffiths.

Eleven-year-old Emily Morrish held a toy sale in her garden in Hickman Road last Saturday and raised £33.35 for Cancer Research.
