Jubilee Tennis Party at Penarth Club

WHO SAYS girls don't want to play tennis?

Eighteen girls turned up for the Jubilee tennis party at Penarth last Saturday to play in the glorious sunshine and had such a great time they asked if the club would organise another similar event soon.

The girls were divided into four groups with the winner from each group going through to play in the semi-finals.

After several hours of hard fought tennis, Charlotte Evans and Katie Williams from Penarth, Hannah John from Rhiwbina and Rebecca Leeke from Cowbridge emerged as the semi-finalists with Hannah the outright winner and the recipient of the main prize, a years membership to the British Womens Tennis Association.

The girls who did not manage to make the semis then went on to play friendly doubles matches before retiring to the clubhouse with the other girls for a delicious Jubilee tea and presentation.

All the girls had great fun and were thrilled to receive their various prizes of T-shirts, teddy bears, pens and sweets.

The club in Rectory Road is proud that the day was such a great success enjoyed by the girls, parents and club members alike and hope to stage a similar event soon.

The next main tennis event will be the 24 hour Tennisathon on Friday and Saturday, June 21 and 22 starting at 6pm when the club hopes to make a lot of money for the BBC Sport and Comic Relief charity Sport Relief.

The charity helps vulnerable children and young people here at home and across the world. If you would like to be involved in this fundraising event, please contact Chrissie Pegg for further details. Tel 029 2070 6897.
