A FORMER St Cyres pupil is celebrating a shock win after producing a television documentary about the world famous painting 'The Scream'.
Judith Winnan, 36, of Cardiff Bay-based Fulmar Television and Film, received a prestigious award from the Royal Television Society after making the programme which was shown by the BBC last year.
The former Victoria Primary pupil was presented the award at the Savoy Hotel in London, along with executive producer Jeremy Bugler.
The 50-minute documentary told the story of the painting by the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch and won the category of 'Education Impact on Primetime Schedule'.
Other nominations in the category were the BBC series 'What the Victorians did for us' and the Channel Four series 'Hell in the Pacific'.
Roath resident Judith, whose family still lives in Penarth, attended St Cyres until 1984 before attending university in Bristol.
She said: "I knew our documentary had gone down well, but we didn't expect to get the award. It really was the icing on the cake. We didn't think we were going to win at all. We were in complete shock."
Judith, who has been working for Fulmar for three years, added: "It's very enjoyable to have made something which has been so very well received. The newspaper critics said lots of nice things when it was shown in December last year, so we were very happy.
"In this day and age most stuff gets ignored so you're fighting for space in the critic's column."
And Judith did not forget to pay tribute to her former secondary school.
She said: "St Cyres gave me a good grounding. In fact, they invited me back to speak on awards day. I have real affection for St Cyres as I enjoyed my time there. The teachers were very welcoming."
