Win tickets for Honk!

PENARTH performers will bring one of the world's favourite fairy tales to life at St Fagans next month - and you can be there for free.

The Penarth Times has teamed up with Everyman Theatre company to offer five family tickets to Honk - a musical based on story of The Ugly Duckling - performed from July 27 until August 2 as part of this year's Cardiff Festival.

The family tickets - worth £18 each and valid for shows between Monday and Friday (excluding Saturday and Sunday performances) - are for two adults and two children.

Performances will be on Saturday, July 27, Monday, July 29, Wednesday, July 31 and Friday, July 2 at 11am and 3pm. On Sunday, July 28, Tuesday, July 30 and Thursday, August 1 at 3pm, and on Saturday, August 3 at 11am.

Honk, directed by Christopher Dunham, is one of three shows being performed by Everyman Theatre in their own open air theatre festival in July and August.

To win tickets simply fill in the accompanying form and post it to Sue Vincent-Jones, News Editor, Penarth Times and Barry and District News, 156 Holton Road, Barry, CF63 4TY by Monday, July 8.

Everyman Theatre will also perform Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Tim Riley, between July 10 and 20 and A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Simon West, between July 24 and August 3.

Honk stars Penarthian Trish Murphy as Dot and Dinas Powys man Nick Mills as Bullfrog. Mr Dunham said: "Honk was originally done by Watermill Theatre in Newbury. It was snapped up by the National as a Christmas show four years ago and since then has been performed all over the country.

"It's very much in the genre of plays about animals, where animals are human, like the show Cats."

He added: "It's the story of how the leading character, Ugly, grows from youth to man." Julie Reaves, designer, said: "We've used a circle stage. Honk is very colourful and picture-book, so we've got a stage to represent this which is very magical. The costumes are also very colourful, so it all links in."
