Set to be star

A SULLY teenager is celebrating after being awarded a scholarship for a leading London drama college.

Shaun Bryant, 17, fought off applications from 2,000 other hopefuls to take a place at the Rose Bruford Academy.

Shaun, of Penarth Players, has shown total commitment to his drama - despite having to sit A levels - and will soon be starring in the group's Murder Mystery Evening, before preparing for his place in London.

Players press officer Phil Rapier said he was very grateful to Shaun for his dedication to the drama group, despite a heavy academic workload.

The Murder Mystery Evening at the Paget Rooms takes place on July 17, at 8pm, as part of this year's Penarth Holiday Festival.

It is expected to be the largest 'Murder Mystery Evening' ever held in Wales, due to the large audience in attendance.

Local author Roger Pinkham, the Players' writer in residence, has crafted the most brilliant plot to challenge the detection skills of the sleuths of Penarth as well as those of the somewhat hapless 'copper in the cast'.

The actors have found it a new and creatively challenging experience having the author present at rehearsals. This has allowed them to use their considerable skill and experience to explore the more subtle aspects of the plot and those all important 'clues'.

Phil said: "A Murder Mystery Evening provides the magic of live theatre at its absolute best. It's so exciting for the cast too, having the audience as an integral part of the drama... and who knows, perhaps the legendary shy Phantom of the Paget Rooms might at last reveal their identity as well."

If you would like to be a sleuth for the night and help solve the mystery, get your ticket now from Windsor Books for £5. This includes a light supper and a glass of wine.
