THE RUSH by local AMs and MPs to claim credit for the apparent extra funding for road repairs is understandable.
However what was not disclosed was the fact that this year the Vale of Glamorgan received the lowest allocation of money in the country.
The Vale is a middle sized Council both in terms of population and area. So why does the Welsh Assembly Government once again hit us? It was not so long ago that New Labour took over £2 million from the Vale Council which council taxpayers had to make up. However what is even more outrageous is that this is not additional money. This money was announced a year ago.
This is a local version of Westminster spin where the same money is presented as extra cash. Do they think the public are fools?
Similar areas such as Wrexham received £1 million. Are the roads in places such as Barry and Penarth in such good condition that we do not need a fair amount?
Instead of being a triumph for the AMs and MPs, this shows how they are failing to fight effectively for the interests of our communities.
Plaid Cymru calculates that the proper share of the funds would give the Vale an additional quarter of a million pounds for essential repairs and maintenance.
Is it right to constantly push out this type of propaganda, when at the same time masking the full story?
