Pier menace

IN REPLY to Stephen King, of Caerphilly ('Fishy trouble', Your Letters, June 13) and to the others that are agitated about the fishing on Penarth Pier.

There are only a few anglers who cut up bait on the pier. Since the council moved the seats from the edges of the pier to the centre, this problem has been much alleviated and the majority of the anglers down there are social people. We do not see why we should have to pay the penalty for the sake of a few.

Does Mr King suggest we ban all sports, because of a few irresponsible people? Does he suggest we ban all cars from the road because of a few irresponsible people?

To the much regretted, alleged accident to his son, such incidents caused by fishing are very few and far between.

As for his closing remarks, does he want the permit only to be available to the select few who happen to be in well-paid, secure jobs? I think not.
