The Bert Leddington Award for Penarth Amateur Boxing Club's Best Senior was won by Peter Moreno.

Heather Brocklehurst, a member of the Lower Sixth at Stanwell Comprehensive School, Penarth, has scored a notable double in essay competitions in the course of the last few weeks.

The inaugural meeting of Penarth Townswomen's Guild Jubilee Luncheon Club was held at International House, Penarth, last week. Among those present were Miss K Hughes, Mrs D Davies, Mrs M Griffiths, Mrs Nellie Evans, Mrs D Parker, Mrs June Elias, Miss M Stevenson, Mrs E Jones, Miss B Blundell, MBE.

A closed circuit television camera may be used to combat traffic delays from Cogan Hill into Cardiff.

Officers in Penarth Police and Fire Service waded through waist high mud at the River Ely on Sunday afternoon to rescue a mare and her two foals.

l A scheme to combat the erosion of the coast road at St Mary's Well Bay could cost £170,000.

EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of July 10, 1992:

l At a meeting of Penarth Chamber of Trade held on Monday, members were adamant that action must be taken to prevent all day car parking in limited areas of the town.

l The 6th Penarth Trinity Venture Scouts are soon to set off on a big adventure. They are Rod Hill, Chris Dacey, Bethan James, Chris Haygarth, Sarah Boswell, David Farmer, Rosslyn Wilkie, Sara Wilkie, Suzanne Haygarth.

l The annual fun day held at Penarth Youth Centre proved a great success. Cally Deans aged five, had her face painted by Liz Dutton, a worker from the Howardian and East Moors Community Education Centre.

l The Glendale Hotel was recently the venue for a reunion of former pupils of the Penarth County Grammar School for Girls. Thirty eight pupils of Forms 5L and 5X, year 1959, met to renew old acquaintances over an excellent buffet supper.

l 26-year-old Nigel Morgan of Penarth, the Vale of Glamorgan's Tourism Development Officer, has been awarded a PhD by the University of Exeter.

l Two pupils of St Andrew's Major Church in Wales Primary School (Stephanie Wall and Victoria Harding) have been successful in recent competitions.
