Gallery hope

THANKYOU for the excellent report by Ceri Garner last week on the Washington Gallery and the financial challenges it faces.

Can I clarify one thing which some people have asked about? We do sell artists' work and charge a royalty on that sale, as do all galleries.

But as we are a not-for-profit company and a registered charity, what we receive in royalties all goes back into service to artists and the public, as does income from our cafe.

As Ceri explained that is not enough to keep us afloat without support from public funding bodies or through the encouraging response to our new appeal of people who use the gallery.

Maggie Knight, Director.
