View obscured

I COMPLETELY fail to understand the Penarth Society's keen interest in the creation of a multi-million pound walkway from the promenade in Penarth to the marina. Why do they not concern themselves with projects which would give greater enjoyment and cost less?

For instance, the Cliff Walk in Penarth has not had the undergrowth cleared properly for years. Currently the best feature of Penarth is being spoiled, as the view of the opposite coastline, Flat Holm, Steep Holm and sea are completely obscured by years of weeds and ugly brambles and trees taking over.

This project, I imagine, would cost hundreds rather than millions, yet give enjoyment 365 days of the year to thousands of people who frequent this area.

Likewise, could they and the local councillors not concern themselves with improving Penarth by seeing the streets cleared of litter, dog faeces and random fly tipping.

Unfortunately for the residents of Penarth, these things, while not costing a great deal, demand time and energy, but sadly lack the kudos of creating a great concrete path around the headland, where no doubt the odd football sized slab of alabaster can fall on our heads.

Mrs J S Newman, Plymouth Road, Penarth.
