Help with world after sixth form

PENARTH school leavers looking to the future can gain a helping hand from a local education service.

'Bridging The Gap' has formed a sponsorship deal with Pricewaterhouse Coopers, allowing it to offer Penarth students and their parents discounted informative books.

These include titles like the brand new Times Good University Guide 2003 for £7.50 instead of the retail cost of £15.

Bridging The Gap was formed four years ago to offer advice and information to schools, parents and students on choices available after sixth form.

Through talks, workshops, and career fairs, the company gives guidance on every aspect of the stages from school to university, including tips on applications, the financial side of university life, gap year options and career choices.

Chief executive Paul Edwards told the Times: "I am delighted that through this partnership we are able to help sixth form students in Penarth with their choices and preparation for life after school.

"For example, we have approached local schools, and had an excellent response from places like St Cyres."

Mr Edwards added that the university guide is a superb tool for parents as well as pupils, as it explains the financial side.

It gives comparisons of every course in Britain, and helps applicants to make informed choices.

The company was established almost two years ago to prepare sixth formers for life after school.

Students Union officer Claire Evans said: "Too often, sixth formers are ill prepared for the lifestyle change or beginning a university career."
