EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of July 29, 1977:
* Despite being given a head start in the raft race at Penarth Esplanade last Sunday the St Fagans Hotel ladies team took an early swim when their raft broke up as soon as it was launched.
* Action is being taken to ensure there is no danger to tenants of the Catherine Meazey Flats at the top of Glebe Street, Penarth following the discovery of settlement at the building.
* Treasurer of Penarth Shelter Group, Cllr John Dixon, helped to release another batch in Shelter's balloon race from the Esplanade last Saturday.
* Three coach loads of Penarth Darby and Joan Club members, together with several WRVS helpers, set off for their annual day's outing on Tuesday of last week.
* Cllr Arthur Lloyd and Cllr Mrs Evelyn Lloyd were guests at the big annual garden party at Buckingham Palace last week when they had the honour to be received by the Queen.

EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of July 31, 1992:
* Richard Heinz Haus of Albert Crescent, Penarth, was awarded an Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering 2 (1) Hons last Tuesday at the University of Sussex.
* Philip North, a student at St Cyres Comprehensive, one of BP Chemical Barry Business Group's link schools has won the BP Chemicals Barry sponsored place at London International Youth Science Forum 1992.
* The Reverend John James has been Minister at Tabernacle Baptist Church for 10 years this week.
* Sally Davies, of Year 10 at St Cyres Comprehensive School, received a cheque from Mr Ian Innes, for designing a logo for the recently formed 'Friends of the Music Department' Association.
* There was a very good attendance at the WRVS Tuesday Club on a lovely afternoon last week. Mrs Joy Matthews welcomed the members.
* St Cyres School's recent summer fete was very successful this year, with over £1,500 being raised.
