Mad Hatters

WE WOULD like to extend our congratulations to the ladies of the Cogan Hotel for their success in the Penarth Holiday Carnival with the "Mad Hatters Tea Party". Some three months of hard work and preparation went into what we believe the judges thought was an outstanding entry.

Special thanks to Andrew Thomas for the use of his lorry, Julia John who was the mastermind of the project and, of course, to Vicky Stockwell, the landlady of the pub for the use of the back room for all the painting and outfit making.

However, what a pity that having put so much effort into preparing the float that only one other competed against them.

Surely the council ought to be encouraging local businesses and other public houses or clubs to enter.

The increased revenues of local businesses, whether in the town centre or along the beach front, would pay for a reasonable attempt for next year and make the carnival an even better sight.

Come on Penarth, try and beat the Cogan next year!
