DVD Review

DENZEL Washington takes a convincing part in this hard-hitting cop thriller, that keeps you tense throughout.

Training Day sees rookie officer Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke) on the first day of a very challenging test. Pass it and he makes detective. Fail and it's back to traffic duty.

As he is sucked into the dirty, seedy, narcotics-soaked street scene in the wake of his superior officer Alonzo Harris, he realises the veteran cop has a twisted view of the rules.

And, as much as he wants to impress his new boss, Jake begins to see that there is a fine line between pushing the boundaries, and crossing them.

For Jake, this is 24-hours that will change his life forever. He has to decide what matters to him most - a good career or a moral duty to do the right thing.

Both actors put their soul into their characters, with Washington scooping an Oscar for

Best Actor in a Leading Role.

The film is an 18 certificate, warranted because of the amount of bad language. But the plot holds the viewers attention throughout the whole two hours. This is definitely worth checking out.
