Lt Cmdr H Steel (SCC) RNR received a barometer from the Town Mayor Cllr Ruby Parsons. Steel has retired from TS Glamorgan after eight years as Commanding Officer of the unit of sea cadets.
A number of goats that were reported straying in the Chamberlain Road area of Dinas Powis mysteriously disappeared last Sunday.
A proposal to spend £10,775 to convert the isolated block of flats at the end of High View Road to a community centre for the Harbour View Estate has been approved by the Vale Housing Committee.
Dinas Powis is the worst area in Wales for traffic and any development bringing about an increase should be rejected, a member of the Vale Planning Committee said.
Mr Frank Milner, of Redlands Road, Penarth, recently won the weekly heat of the talent contest while staying at Pontin's Barton Hall Chalet Hotel, near Torquay, in Devon.

Mrs Irene Kingston, of Cornerswell Road, Penarth, donated her 50th pint of blood at Penarth donation session at All Saints last week.
Brothers Mr Oliver Crompton and Mr Emlyn Crompton were presented with long service medals at the Royal Welsh Show at Builth Wells for more than 40 years service in agriculture.
An appeal against the Vale council's refusal to allow housing and sports club development on a 37-acre site at Sully has been made to the Welsh Office by BP Chemicals Ltd.
Four Stanwell sixth formers (David Laugharne, Nick Morgan, David Balmforth and Dan Griffith) recently spent three days training with businesses in the South and West of England. The trip was their prize as runners up in the Allied Steel and Wire annual business competition.
The Jane Clarke School of Dancing took third prize with their 'toy shop' in the under 15 Amateur Decorated Float class at the carnival parade, and the Tabernacle Baptist Church took third prize for their decorated float in the senior class.
