Another blow

THE CLOSURE of Allied Wire and Steel in Cardiff is a disaster for the economy of the country.

The loss of 800 steel jobs and the many thousands of ancillary jobs is yet another nail in the coffin of Welsh manufacturing industry.

The steel workers have been betrayed by a government in London, which has stood idly by when the Americans have imposed protectionist barriers to prop up their inefficient industry.

The generous support of a foreign steel owner to the Labour Party must leave a bitter taste for many of the work force.

What has been the reaction of the Welsh Assembly Government? Nothing but to say that the site should not be redeveloped.

It has failed in its duty to fight for Welsh jobs.

Now it appears that the very pensions of the workers are at risk. Quite what is Labour doing to protect the people from such calamities?

No wonder the unions are withdrawing money from Labour.
