EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of August 12, 1977:

Mrs Jean Thomas, wife the president of Penarth and District Skittles League, presented Mrs Audrey Marsh the Guinness Shield for Division I runners-up, The Breakaways, at the annual presentation evening. A plea for action to deal with an "increasing traffic problem" in Wordsworth Avenue, Penarth, has been given the thumbs-down by South Glamorgan County Council.

Mr George Dawson who has been Controller for Personnel and Industrial Relations with Wales and The Marches Telecommunications Board since 1970 retires this month after 42 years service with the Post Office.

As expected there was a large entry for the two water ski races held at Penarth at the weekend in the fourth round of the Regional Water Ski Racing Championships.

Three-year-old Sian Chick, daughter of Mr and Mrs Trevor Chick, of West Terrace, Penarth, won first prize in the Jubilee Princess competition, and first prize in the Picture of Health competition while on holiday at Butlins, Pwllheli.

Lt Cmdr H Steel (SCC) RNR, who is retiring after eight years as Commanding Officer of TS Glamorgan enjoyed a farewell drink in the Mess with some of the Sea Cadets.

EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of August 14, 1992:

Penarth Police are still keen to see more 'Neighbourhood Watch' schemes set up in the area.

Daniel, son of Mr and Mrs Alan Johanson, won the Aquarius Cup for gaining the highest number of points in the children's crafts section at the recent village show.

Mrs Owena Hopwood, of Vale View Close, Llandough, was a first prize winner in the Literary Section at the National Eisteddfod of Wales held last week at Aberystwyth.

The Dinas Powys branch of the Marchant family were among 14 family members who turned up for a team photograph prior to a training tide in preparation for the British Heart Foundation Cyclethon on September 6.

Proposals to carry out environmental improvements and structural repairs to flats at Royal Close, Penarth, have been welcomed by Town Councillors.

Penarth MP Alun Michael is asking rail travellers in the town for details of the problems they have experienced with rail services and personal or business problems that have arisen.
