TONY GODDARD boosted Penarth Gym Club's fundraising for a new home when he pushed a barrow-load of building materials all the way from King Square, Barry, to Penarth town centre, last Saturday.
Tony, whose daughter Kayleigh is a junior member of the club, undertook this gutsy feat to help raise money for the new building project which will cement a future for the club.
The event was sponsored by Penarth Stone Masons, whose director Jon Denning drove the support vehicle which led the parade.
Following were mainstream and special needs members and supporters of the club whose fancy dress costumes surprised and amused passing motorists and shoppers.
It is not every day you can find the whole Simpsons Family, Minnie and Mickey, a belly dancer, Dennis the Menace, a hairy pink fairy and a large number of equally outrageous characters following a man wearing suspenders and mesh stockings, pushing a wheelbarrow.
The en route bucket collection netted £500 which, added to Mr Denning's generous donation and the pledges secured by the walkers, should total in the region of £3,000.
That was really something to celebrate, and all concerned did just that in style, back at their temporary home in the Pier Pavilion, where Mums had prepared a post-walk beanfeast. This revived the gallant walkers for the disco party that rounded off the day.
The fancy dress winners were Gareth Huish's clown, Sarah Toshack's bunny girl and the large pink fairy also known as Andrew Huish.
All concerned wish to thank the many donors and those passers-by who tooted horns, shouted support and dug deep in their pockets to Help Save Penarth Gym Club.
