Crime is down

PENARTH crime is hitting an all time low according to brand new figures released this week.

A recent audit claims that the Vale of Glamorgan has seen a fall in reported incidents from 11,888 to 9,155 over the last three years.

The statistics are the first to be released since the Vale Crime and Disorder Strategy was set up in 1999.

This unique partnership between the local authority and police is being credited for the success.

Chief Inspector Steve Burge told the Times: 'Working in partnership puts us in a stronger position to tackle crime and disorder effectively.

'Each partner brings different experiences to the group creating a pool of ideas, resources and expertise. Incidents of crime and disorder in the area are often far lower than people think, however we are committed to achieving even further reductions and are now looking forward to building on the success of the past three years.'

The strategy was developed and implemented by the Vale of Glamorgan Community Safety Partnership, through close work and co-operation with local communities.

Made up of statutory and voluntary agencies, businesses and community groups, the partnership has now developed a new three year strategy and, in consultation with local communities, has agreed the following priorities for action:

To target and reduce autocrime; to further reduce the level of house burglary; to reduce the level of drug and alcohol related crime and disorder; to reduce youth offending and youth annoyance; to reduce incidents of crime against vulnerable individuals and groups; to target violent crime; to help create a safer environment for communities.
