CD review

TOPLOADER'S newest release into the album chart comes in the shape of Magic Hotel. Formed in 1997, from the chemistry between a bunch of Eastbourne drinking mates, Toploader have swiftly risen up through the ranks.

Without any doubt, singer keyboardist Joseph Washbourn has a distinctive style, that saw their last album criticised by some as sounding a bit same-y.

But there is definitely no way this can be said of Magic Hotel.

Although there are only 11 tracks on the album, the band pack a lot into their 45-minute running time.

There is a mix of sounds from slightly Beatleish to perhaps a little Commitments.

It's a great album from a band rapidly growing in popularity. They have already released Time Of My Life, as a single, which turned out to be a hit.

This album is definitely a good one for the collection. It's upbeat and very stirring; without question, well worth a listen or two, or three.
