25 YEARS AGO EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of September 2, 1977:

At his second visit to Bisley, 22-year-old Martin Barker, of Whitcliffe Drive, Penarth, scored a notable success, by carrying off the Jaegar Challenge Trophy.

Winner of the ten to 11 years 60 yards sprint at Dinas Powys Athletic Club Sports on Monday was Joanne Griffiths.

Enrolment takes place next week for the dozens of courses in both leisure and learning activities available at Penarth Adult Education Centre during the session 1977-78.

Mr D Wilson had the pleasure of presenting the shield donated by R Lewis Electric Wholesalers Ltd, of Cardiff, for the best green series/best clearwing breeder, at Penarth Bird Society's Members' Trophy Show to his son, Andrew.

Heading for a £500 cheque and a £100 gold watch is 22-year-old Shirley Boulton from Penarth, who won Littlewood's Pools Miss Cardiff title.

Eleven-year-old Sally Anne Phillips, of Masefield Road, Penarth, recently beat all comers as a donkey racing jockey while staying at Pontin's Wall Park Holiday Village, at Brixham, Devon.

EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of September 4, 1992: Due to inclement weather, the Marie Curie League of Friends Garden Party was transferred to All Saints Church Hall, Victoria Road. TV personality Noreen Bray opened the event to a large crowd which enjoyed all the fun of the fair.

Penarth Citizens Advice Bureau dealt with a total of 764 enquiries during July, including 25 from Dinas Powys, eight from Sully and two from Llandough.

The Flat Holm Project has a new Project Officer, Ingrid Emerson, who has already spent 15 months as resident island warden on the 50 acre island nature reserve in the Bristol Channel.

Travel agents Veronica Herlihy and Leesha Andrews recently enjoyed an unexpected meal in the sky above South Wales. The two, who sell holidays for Travellers, Penarth, were among more than 100 representatives of South Wales agents to eat dinner at 20,000ft as guests of Principality based Aspro Holidays.

Alex Baker, of Windsor Road, Penarth, a former pupil of Stanwell Comprehensive School, has achieved three Grade A passes at A-level in maths, physics and chemistry
