DVD review

IN THE year that celebrates 'The King' a quarter of a century after he died, it's hardly surprising to see a surge of Elvis movies and tributes. But 3000 Miles To Graceland is a whole different take on the usual efforts.

With a huge cast, including leading roles by Kurt Russell, Kevin Costner and Courtney Cox, the film sees a group of hardened thieves take on Las Vegas for a $3.2 million heist.

After a lot of double-crossings and confusion, there is a race to see who can get the money.

It's a film where the audience finds themselves rooting for one bad guy, because he's nicer than the other bad guy. But it still does work quite well.

There are themes throughout the movie that could have done with being explored a little more, or left out completely, like the paternity question. Is Tom Murphy (Costner) Elvis' true son?

The soundtrack is a curious mix of hard modern rock and classic Elvis tracks.

It is one to watch, but don't expect too much out of it. Any fans of deep films with hidden messages will be left unfulfilled. But if you fancy a bit of 'cops n robbers' new Millennium style, it will probably suit you fine.
