Project is blooming

PENARTH youngsters are striding ahead with their summer development project. The youth club members of Byrd Crescent Community Centre, set themselves the challenge of clearing an area of waste land situated in the grounds of the club.

Their aim was to create an environmental area, which would be used by them as well as members of the community.

The project began on August 5, and was scheduled over a two week period. Youth worker, Sue Lloyd said that the work is likely to carry on for another few weeks, as the project was 'bigger than they thought'.

The young people taking part had to remove debris from the ground before preparing it, and then laying soil, securing benches and arranging plants.

They are working towards a Bronze Youth Achievement Award, which involves completing a series of mini challenges.

The garden has been separated into two areas, with one being a community area, and the other designated for young people.

Sue Lloyd said: "The children have worked really hard, but there is an end in sight, watch this space!"

She explained that members, aged 11-18 years, will carry on with their tasks in the garden during their week night sessions at the youth club.

The club thanks David Wilson Homes, Sealord Scaffolding and the Prince's Trust for their support.
