EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of September 9, 1977: One Penarth family certainly won't go short of bread during the present strike. For 14-year-old Miss Sarah Warburton of St Mark's Road, won first prize in the breadmaking class at Penarth Horticultural Society while her mother, Mrs Barbara Warburton shared second prize.

Work to overcome problems which have led to structural cracks in walls at the Catherine Meazey Flats, Penarth, will cost an estimated £13,000, members of the Vale Housing Committee were told on Monday.

Tenants of council flats throughout the Vale of Glamorgan area are to be told that if they break their tenancy agreements by keeping a dog they risk eviction proceedings. Mr A C J Ashwell has been appointed manager of National Westminster Bank's Penarth Branch. He succeeds Mr C G Hale who retired.

Mrs Linda Owens has been appointed the area youth organiser for Penarth after working for two-and-a-half years as assistant to the organiser.

10 YEARS AGO EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of September 11, 1992: The cost of repairs to Penarth Pier are estimated at £400,000 it has been confirmed. Concern has been expressed at the level of vandalism in Alexandra Park, Penarth, and parks in Barry.

Vale mayor and mayoress Cllr Des and Mrs Teresa Leddington took a trip on the new pilot cutter 'Draconian' from Penarth Pier to Barry.

Eight-year-old Emily Stevens, of South Road, Sully, was pictured recently with Vale of Glamorgan MP Mr Walter Sweeney on the terrace of the House of Commons.

Chairman of Michaelston Community Council, Cllr George Stevenson, held his Civic Service at St Michael's and All Angels Church, Michaelston, last Sunday.

Three-year-old Amy Davies, of Cosmeston Drive won first prize with her drawing of an animal at Penarth Horticultural Society's annual show.
