DVD review

STEVEN Seagal takes on a very understated role in his newest film 'Ticker' with Tom Sizemore and Dennis Hopper.

Seagal plays Frank Glass, San Francisco's bomb expert called on to try and defuse terrorist-planted 'tickers' before they take out the city. And after arresting stunning actress Jaime Pressly, one of the gang, the threats become louder and more explosive.

Tom Sizemore plays detective Ray Nettles, whose clouded past is affecting his working judgement. Together they have to track down the ruthless terrorist leader Swan (Hopper).

Swan's Irish accent is somewhat dubious, but the audience should get the hint that there may be a close IRA connection. However, the film is not political in the slightest. The twist comes right at the very end - although an observant viewer should be able to pick up the plot very early on. Seagal does not show his talents in martial arts apart from a small part of the movie and its main strength lies in the pyrotechnics.
