Ace players net £275 for charity

DINAS POWYS tennis players took part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

The national event was held on Friday, September 27, and the ladies group at Dinas Powys Lawn Tennis Club all pulled together, making their coffee morning an overwhelming success which raised a total of £275.

The event was held at the club and organised by volunteer and tennis player, Sandra Withey, from Wenvoe.

Sandra said about fifty people turned up to support the event, held from 10am-12 noon. Club members and people from the Parish Hall luncheon club in Dinas Powys attended the fundraiser.

Sandra added: "It was a very successful day, enjoyed by all".

The tennis club has been holding the event for the past six years and as well as serving coffee and biscuits, the volunteers arranged a number of stalls which sold a variety of items.

The ladies would like to thank everyone who contributed to the event, which they described as "good fun".

The Dinas Powys Lawn Tennis Club has 250 members and they celebrated the club's 100th year in 2001.

The club provides an extensive range of coaching classes which are open to males and females.

Money from the 'World's Biggest Coffee Morning' will help Macmillan Cancer Relief raise funds for specialist Macmillan nurses and doctors as well as for new treatment centres.

The coffee morning is a national event and is now in its 12th year. The total raised last year was £3.2 million, which helped to support more than 200,000 people living with cancer and their families.
