Deli short-listed for top award

A PENARTH delicatessen has secured a place in the final of the True Taste 2002 Wales Food and Drink Awards.

Foxy's Deli, on Victoria Road, only opened nine months ago but that has not stopped it from being one of only four companies in the Vale of Glamorgan area to be short-listed for the awards.

Owner Neil Fox, 38, explained that he had always wanted to open a delicatessen. His ambition became a reality in January 2002 when Foxy's opened its doors to the public for the first time.

Neil originates from Colchester but has been living in Dinas Powys for the past two years with his wife Sian, 41, and their daughter Carys who is 18 months old.

Foxy's stocks a wide variety of Welsh products, including 40 different cheeses, salamis, cooked hams, chutneys and pates, as well as organic produce. It is open six days a week.

The Foxy's logo was designed by Neil, with assistance from Cardiff-based company Celf Creative.

All of the short-listed entrants will go through to a final judging day at St David's Hotel and Spa on October 16, where they will have to present their products to the main judging panel.

The gold, silver and bronze winners will be announced at a ceremony at Newport's Celtic Manor on November 14.

The winners will then be able to display the new True Taste Awards branding on their products and literature.
