SUMMER NIGHTS seem a long way off as Windsor start to play floodlit tennis and now seems to be a good time to reflect on the league season just ended and to congratulate all the ladies and juniors who played in the four teams in the South Wales Summer League.
The ladies first team finished second in their division and narrowly missed promotion.
The second team came top of their league and will now join the firsts in the Second Division - will this bring out any hidden competitive streaks?
The third team have justified their promotion last season and will remain in division three next season. The fourth team are rapidly gaining match experience and aided by special tuition from club coach Rob Cunningham, will be aiming for promotion next season.
Thanks are extended to team captains Margaret Richmond, Jane Williams, Yvonne Gimber and Pat Tatham for the smooth running and success of all matches. It is also hoped that team members who were unable to play this year due to illness or injury are now fully recovered and will be match fit and raring to go next April.
With the onset of autumn, one of the club's ladies veteran teams has already played their first fixture and recorded a fine victory against a strong Abergavenny side.
Congratulations to Margaret Richmond, Cathy O'Doherty, Kay Clarke and Jill Latham. Good luck is extended to Elaine Newton, captain of the second ladies vets team and her squad, who have their first match on Saturday, October 19.
The club now have their winter mixed doubles league to keep them occupied with 84 members already signed up for action - so dig out those thermals and get on court!
