EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of October 14, 1977:

Airgun pellets were fired at a house in Bridge Street, Cogan on Tuesday, October 4, causing damage estimated at £30 to a window.

A local councillor is backing an appeal by residents for a complete ban to be imposed on through traffic at the Cowslip Estate, Penarth.

Former chairman of Penarth Conservative Club for eight years, Cllr Arthur Lloyd was last Sunday presented with a cheque by the present Chairman, Mr George Brown, while club secretary Mrs Bette Brooke presented Cllr Mrs Evelyn Lloyd with a bouquet.

At an awards presentation evening held by the 1st Llandough Ranger Unit at the Llandough Scout and Guide Hall last Thursday, Mrs Betty John, County Guide Commissioner for Cardiff and East Glamorgan, invested five new Ranger Guides.

First prize in the mother and daughter competition at the Salvation Army Holiday Plus Fellowship at Butlins Bognor Regis camp has been won by Mrs Barbara Spear and daughter Ruth, of Bromfield Place, Penarth. They also did well in the competition last year when they came second.

Cogan and Llandough Senior Citizens were entertained at their monthly meeting by Mrs Nan Evans, Mrs Sam Thomas, Mrs Glad Morgan and Mr John Angove.

EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of October 16, 1992:

A survey of local beaches by a Penarth School has resulted in 'alarming finds,' including a large amount of broken glass and dozens of tyres.

A rare piece of wood from the Clevedon Pier on the other side of the Bristol Channel has made its way across the Channel and into the Mayor's parlour at the Vale of Glamorgan Borough Council.

Emma Fanning, aged 13, a Year 9 pupil at Stanwell Comprehensive School, Penarth has won first prize in a short story writing competition organised jointly by the Welsh Academy and Blackwood Miners' Institute.

A meal will be held at Trinity Hall on Thursday, October 22, at which three quarters of the people will have a bowl of rice and a cup of water, whilst the other quarter will eat a three course meal and drink coffee. This is an attempt to experience in a very small way, the reality of many people in the world's poorer countries.

British Gas Wales engineer Liz Gilbert, of Sully, has taken on a WISE role. 29-year-old Liz who has worked for BGW for six years and is an industrial and commercial engineer based at Grangetown, Cardiff has been appointed Vice Chairwoman of Women Into Science and Engineering (WISE) in Wales.
