Free tennis at Rectory Road

EVER THOUGHT of playing tennis but too shy to give it a go?

Now is the time for beginners of all ages to take to the courts and flex those tennis muscles in what is traditionally the quiet season.

On Sunday, October 27 the new coach at Penarth Lawn Tennis Club, Anna Sorkin will be on court from 10am.

There will be a mini tennis session from 10-11.30am for those aged 10 and under and a fun tennis session from 11.30-1pm for the over 10s.

There will be a break from 1-2pm when you can chat about your coaching needs and from 2pm there will be an American tournament for adults and juniors and afternoon tea at 4pm.

All are welcome, members and non-members alike.

Chairman Alun Morgan said: "This is the start of a new era for the club and everyone is really excited. Our new coach Anna has a fantastic pedigree having played at junior Wimbledon in 1990 and represented Great Britain as a junior against teams from West Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and Hungary.

She is already a great hit with all the members and I can't remember when we had so many people signing up for group and individual lessons.

"Our club is always busy and we have as many tournaments and events during the winter months as we do in the summer.

Last weekend we had a doubles tournament in which the adults partnered a junior, on November 2 we have a Halloween tournament in fancy dress and we shall be having a Christmas tournament with mulled wine and mince pies for the adults and something more appropriate for the juniors.

Our Saturday night tennis sessions from 5-8pm are a big success and we are looking forward to a great winter season.

So if you've ever wanted to raise a racket, come and join us for some free coaching on Sunday, October 27."
