l The hand grenade found in a garden at Highwalls Avenue, Dinas Powys, was detonated by bomb disposal experts, when they found it was too dangerous to move.
l The Vale leisure services committee has decided that it has no use for the vandal-hit Kymin House and for acres of grounds overlooking Penarth seafront.
l Kathryn Howells and Philippa Richards of the 8th Penarth (St Augustine's) Guide company were presented with the Queen's Guide awards at a special ceremony held at St Augustine's church hall last Friday.
l Following criticism by Penarth Town Council of the deck chair facilities at the seafront this summer, it has been pointed out that demand is insufficient to cover the cost of placing them on the promenade.
l A Dinas Powys schoolgirl has licked all the opposition to win top prize in a national letter writing competition run by the post office.
Sarah Robertson aged 12, of Caernarvon Close, went to London to receive her prize from Tommy Steele.

EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of October 30, 1992: Children of Llandough Primary school held their annual harvest festival service at St Dochdwy's church, Llandough.
Harvest gifts were received by the Rev Kenwyn Evans Rector.
l Play equipment is to be removed from a playing field at Llandough because of fears that children could be at risk from undesirables.
l Leisure projects worth almost £1m were axed from next year's priorities by Vale councillors on Monday.
l Penarth's Hilary Boshier-Jones was one of the delegates from all over South and West Wales who attended the Tenovus annual conference in Cardiff.
l A sum of £40,000 to improve Penarth town centre has been included in the provisional priorities for 1993-94 by the Vale public works and planning committee.
l Dr Andrew Wilson-Dickson, director of music at Stanwell Road Baptist church has had a major study of Christian music published by Lion Books.
