A PENARTH school has been rewarded for their endeavours in food technology by the Food Standards Agency.
St Cyres year 11 food technology pupils have come second and won £3,000 in Curry's vouchers in the competition.
Each member of the class were presented with a certificate on October 30 at the school. The school entered the competition as part of the Food Standards Agency of Wales (FSA) Food Facts CD-ROM.
Pupils used the CD in the development of the cook-chill meal which contained the correct balance of vegetables, protein and carbohydrate.
Each pupil had to cook their own meal and were helped by student teacher Janet O'sullivan as part of her assessment.
Amy Lewis, 16, of Hastings Place, Penarth took part in the challenge. She said: "I like to prepare desserts and a variety of foods such as lasagne.
"I think this prize is great for the school because the prize will help us and other pupils after we leave."
Another pupil Martin Bolton, 15, of Willow Close, Penarth, said: "I enjoy cooking particularly pastry dishes and I would like to go on to university to study food technology."
