DVD review 'The Italian Job'

IT'S 1969 and Charlie Croker (Michael Caine) has just got out of jail, armed with a rather grand idea.

The Italian Job follows his ingenious plan to steal $4 million of gold bullion in broad daylight from right under the noses of the Turin Polizei.

Masterminded by top criminal brain Mr Bridger, played by the one and only Noel Coward, Charlie, his band of hand-picked villains and three very special Mini Coopers set off to cause maximum confusion with the biggest traffic jam Italy has ever seen.

Pulling the heist off successfully, all the band of crooks have to do is get away from the police.

This leads to probably not the best car chase in the history of cinema, but certainly a contender for the funniest.

Rated PG and including extra features such as a deleted scene, three exclusive documentaries and audio commentary, it's well worth a second look.
