No to war

DR ROWAN Williams, still currently Archbishop of Wales but shortly to become new Archbishop of Canterbury following the resignation of Dr George Carey, has reiterated and amplified his criticism of a possible future war with Iraq.

This was done in the course of an article in the Daily Telegraph of November 5.

I was encouraged by the content of this article, which shows Rowan Williams as a careful, and at times subtle thinker.

That Dr Carey himself opposed a war with Iraq (in a recent media interview) was also particularly encouraging, since it would have been more difficult to label Carey as an 'appeaser'.

Dr Williams means well, and his message must be listened to, but a team of sub-editors from say, the Sun, could give Rowan's thought much more punch!

Meanwhile, it should be a case of Carry On Rowan, especially when the simplistic and effectively evil policies of President Bush are now supported so strongly in the American House of Representatives.

Now that, despite my earlier attempt at humour, is NOT at all funny.

Rather it is a matter of life and death, especially for numerous civilians in a Third World country.
