Bid to climb table

IMPROVING Penarth can exploit home advantage this Saturday as they embark on their fourth successive fixture at the Athletic Field.

Following the late relocation of their successful outing against St.Peters three weeks ago, the Seasiders welcome eighth-placed Pontllanfraith, having shown a marked improvement over the course of their three recent fixtures.

The Gwent club have also shown inconclusive form after their elevation to Div 5 (East), registering three wins in seven outings so far, the only one outside the basement being an 18-10 defeat of Tredegar Ironsides.

However, they sit three places above the Seasiders on the strength of it.

Penarth will be looking to continue the steady improvement of the last few weeks, recovering from a 40-0 home defeat against leaders Newport Saracens with a spirited performance against Caldicot and a welcome 5-try de of St.Peters.

There are few real weaknesses in the current young squad, leaving aside a chronic injury problem and the perennial dilemma of the number 10 shirt.

A string of tasty-looking fixtures awaits the Seasiders either side of Christmas, with only the visit to Old Illtydians looking at all daunting.

With a bit of luck, they could enter the New Year in a far stronger position than they occupy today.
