A ROUNDABOUT at the Redlands Road/Eastbrook junction, with a direct link into Llandough Hospital from the side of the church was an idea floated several years ago (Penarth Times, November 22).
But it won't work.
First because traffic backing up from the Merrie Harrier lights will clog up the roundabout.
Second because during the morning peak, Penarth traffic from Redlands Road will fill the roundabout and exclude Eastbrook-Dinas traffic.
What about removing the traffic lights and restricting Penlan Road downhill to left-filtering traffic?
Llandough to Dinas travellers could go round the Barons Court roundabout and back. But it leaves the second problem.
They'd have to put traffic lights on the new roundabout.
Which needs a larger roundabout, demolishing the church and a house or two.
So what's behind it - why put forward a scheme that clearly won't work?
Is it simply a ruse to get round the promise to Llandough Community Council of no further hospital expansion without a new road into the hospital?
Or is it a ruse to extract a sum that would pass the NHS auditors towards the Vale Council's more grandiose plan - to give us a mini Culverhouse Cross?
