EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of December 9, 1977:

South Glamorgan County Council is taking a fresh look at the Merrie Harrier Road Junction, where the traffic lights system has come in for criticism from confused motorists.

Penarth Darts League Secretary, Mr Olly Howells received the Charlie Curtin Memorial Challenge Cup on behalf of the League, from Mrs Gwyneth Curtin, at Penarth Labour Club last Saturday.

A perfectly hit goal by Swan Stars striker Tony Partridge was disallowed by the referee in last Saturday's match against Adamsdown Athletic.

The minibus appeal fund now stands at £1,056, the Secretary, Mr Edward Jenkins, announced at last Thursday's General meeting of the Dinas Powis Council of Social Services.

Cllr John Dixon, prospective Plaid Cymru Parliamentary candidate for the Barry Constituency, presented a cheque to Plaid Cymru chairman, Dr Euryl ap Gwilym, towards Plaid's national £45,000 appeal.

Traffic experts have assured members of Penarth Town Council that a roundabout is the best option for improving the junction of Windsor Road with the Penarth Haven development at the dock.

The Vale Council last week agreed to make a grant of £1,000 to Penarth and District Chamber of Trade.

Penarth Male Voice Choir were delighted when John Harris agreed to sing as guest soloist at their Christmas concert at the Paget Rooms.

Dinas Powys Orchestra's Christmas Concert at the Parish Hall last Sunday was a nostalgic occasion, for it was the last time for Mrs Barbara Parrott to conduct the orchestra before retiring.

Jennifer Jones, of Windsor Road, Cogan, was rewarded for 20 years of faithful service with Forte's contract catering organisation, Gardner Merchant, when she received her Long Service Award, presented by Forte Chairman Rocco Forte.
