Happy New Year!

PENARTH favourite Stan Stennett is enjoying his 54th season of panto, at the Paget Rooms.

The pantomime is Billy and Bonzo Meet Red Riding Hood in which Stan plays mischievous Billy Green.

Billy and his brother Jimmy (played by Stan's son Ceri) have to save Red Riding Hood and the village of Cwmbachyer from Mangy the wolf.

Stan, who is 77, said: "It is the third year in a row we have come to Penarth and we enjoy coming here.

In my early career on the road with pantomimes I was top of the bill.

I was supported by Morecambe and Wise from 1953 to 1957."

The panto has been across South Wales - and Stan has been busy working for Hollywood, too.

He has just finished filming Plots With A View, in South Wales, with Lee Evans and Christopher Walken.

He plays a character whose wife wants a Star Trek burial, which she gets with Vulcan ears and all the trimmings.

Stan is already planning next year's panto, Snow White.
