Good value for money

TODAY, Saturday, December 21, I attended a farmer's market in Penarth.

It was actually held in the front car park of the Conservative Club in the town, and I understand that such events are held there from time to time.

I became aware a number of months ago of the existence of this shopping opportunity and, on one recent previous occasion, had a good look around but did not buy anything.

Today however, I bought quite a lot, perhaps appropriate only a few days before Christmas.

I have not cooked or eaten any of it yet, but I expect the food to be of a high standard and that either the prices will turn out to have been lower, or the quality of the food higher for the same price.

Good luck to the farmers' markets therefore! No doubt I shall continue to shop partly in supermarkets and, unlike Jose Bove in France (he of the McDonald's incident in Millau) I would not wish to see these large emporia razed to the ground.

I don't think that the choice of venue for this market necessarily has any political significance, even if most farmers are likely to veer to the moderate right rather than the moderate left of centre politically.
