FORMER St Cyres pupil Jamie Shaw, member of Pop Rivals 'One True Voice', has narrowly missed the number one slot.
The local lad, who had the Vale, and the nation, gripped as he battled for a place in the group, lost out to girl team, 'Girls Aloud.'
The band, which was also picked through the Pop Rivals process, scooped the Christmas number one with Sound of the Underground.
Seventeen-year-old Jamie, who is now at home in Pencoedtre village for Christmas, and his group's song, Sacred Trust, hit the number two spot.
He said: "We can't be disappointed with number two for a new band.
The girls single was more of a pop song than ours, and it sounded like a song by the 'Sugababes'.
I even bought a copy of the single myself."
He also confirmed that the boys have big plans for the New Year.
They will be shooting the video for their new single in Miami next month, and will be working with former N'sync star Justin Timberlake on their album which will be released in March.
He also revealed how disappointed he is at the band's failure to play Cardiff on their forthcoming tour.
He said: "I am still fighting for the band to come to Cardiff, because Wales has been so supportive of us."
The band wants to write their own songs and Jamie has been writing a song with Anton which they hope will be used.
He said: "I think we will be composing a lot on the road.
"I can see Anton and I getting our guitars out to compose a few songs."
But for the meantime, Jamie is happy to be at home.
He said: "I would have been happy with no presents as long as I was at home with my family.
But I am back in London on New Year's Eve to go to a celebrity party.
"Everyone has to arrive in a Ferrari at the Mayfair venue, which will be exciting."
