EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of January 6, 1978:

A long serving member of the former Penarth UDC, Mrs Kathleen Evans, of Greenway Close, Llandough, has been awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours List for services to the community in Penarth.

Nineteen-year-old Trevor Miller, of St David's Crescent, a Penarth Gymnast who has been fighting his way back to fitness after coming close to death in a road accident, has been shortlisted for an annual award for the most courageous personality in the world of sport.

Mr David Foulkes of Forrest Road, Penarth, a former Penarth councillor, has been appointed to a readership in law at UWIST in Cardiff.

A presentation has been made on behalf of his former customers to Mr Arthur John, who has just retired after 60 years delivering milk in Penarth.

A most successful Christmas dinner at the Paget Rooms was enjoyed recently by Penarth OAPs.

Among the guests were Town Mayor, Cllr Ruby Parsons.

A local firm, Arthur Douglas Ltd, of Penarth Road, are producing 10,000 helmets a week from BP Chemicals Rigidex
