Nice 'uncle'

There are so many people who have nothing good to say about the boys in blue, after seeing your pictures in the Penarth Times on January 2 "Caught in the act," I felt compelled to write in to you.

Of the five photographs on the page, four of them show PC Malcolm Thomas having a great time with Sully Primary School pupils.

Not only does it help to conquer the fear some young children have of our law enforcers, it builds bridges. I can speak from experience.

When I was a young girl in Fairfield Primary School, PC Malcolm Thomas was our community officer. He came around frequently, and we were encouraged to call him 'Uncle Malcolm'.

He'll probably be pleased to know that this was 15 years ago, and he still looks exactly the same to me. In fact, it's very hard not to think of him as 'Uncle Malcolm', even today.
