Youth Success impresses sponsors

Penarth Youth 60pts Lydney Colts 5pts

A RECEPTION at the Athletic Club last Saturday afternoon for "Friends of Penarth Youth" aimed at raising much-needed funds to help with the inevitable costs of running the side attracted a number of well-known Penarth names and they were treated to a fast open game in bright sunshine during which the young Seasiders showed total commitment, and a feast of sparkling tries came as a result.

The Youth have been playing Lydney since they were re-formed and the Gloucester side were determined this time to take back a victory.

It took 15 minutes before Penarth could establish any dominance and local winger Dan Read could break through their defence to score.

This set a pattern and soon centre Nick Gill was cutting through desperate defence to score the first of his four tries, converted by Gareth Jones.

The game was characterised throughout by high speed movements on both sides and David "DJ" James was the next Seasider to force his way to the try line, converted by Mark Sadler.

It was fitting that captain James Coslett was the next to score as a reward for his hard work and Gareth Jones obliged with the conversion.
