Saddened

Can I say I was most disappointed with your report, 'Help for Patients,' December 26, 2002.

After I spoke to the reporter Charles Booth I did think he understood most of sad story about my husband dying of coronary artery disease.

Instead, in the report he only talked about heart disease.

They are two separate things altogether

To clarify, my husband had trouble on the left side of his heart. Arteries were blocked, but you talked about statins that reverse cholesterol.

The statins are prescribed when the blood count shows a certain amount of cholesterol.

When it is at a high level, combined with high blood pressure, then a lipid drug is prescribed to get rid of it.

My husband had two blood cholesterol counts. One in 1988 when it showed 6.5mml with such high blood pressure even the blood vessels were haemorrhaged.

The second count was in 1991, which showed 7.7mml so the blood count was dangerously high. He was now in danger of getting coronary heart disease.

Then my husband had a stroke and was rushed to hospital for life saving operation.

I feel statins may have saved my husband's life and that it wasn't too late in 92/93 to reverse the cholesterol.

I am appealing for any Penarth readers who were prescibed statins to contact me, so I can see who is prescribed the drugs for high cholesterol.
